She suggested they should buy their freedom after only a couple years, and the two of them worked for years until they could afford to purchase their independence. They wanted to free Mktek's parents as well, and find her family, but his parents refused to go and they had no luck finding what had happened to her family since she'd been sold out of the dilithium mines. They did finally get their union legally recognized after gaining their freedom.

	They did managed to find a scrap of land dismissed as unusable by Romulan brewers, and started their own small brewery. They'd slowly built up a clientele and a reputation over ~~the~~ decades until the nova threatened Romulus and Remus. They fought to gain a spot on one of the Federation relief vessels, so they could bring at least some of their equipment and ale, but in the end they had to take the steerage class spots on the Romulan government evacuation ship that limited each of them to one bag they could carry with them. They left everything ~~but~~ their seeds and their notes ~~behind~~ and arrived on Earth with the clothes on the back, the bags over their shoulders, and nothing else but each other. 			At first S'vekuk was distraught because things appeared worse for them on Earth than they had been on Romulus as they would have had to start over and had a whole new culture to assimilate into. They were lucky enough to get a case worker who actually spoke their language and had connections with the department of land preservation, which lead to them being offered a dilapidated farm in Kansas and support to restore it, in exchange for being the custodians to maintain this piece of Earth history.

			In the decades since, they've settled in and have focused on adapting Romulan Ale and Whiskey to what they can grow on Earth, as well as slowly exploring other types of spirits native to Earth and other Federation worlds.

			S'vekuk continues to attempt to locate her family, but hasn't had any leads. She believes that it's unlikely any of them were evacuated from Remus before the nova.
